Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of voter discrepancies as baseless. Gandhi claimed 39 lakh voters were added in five months, questioning the legitimacy of the Maharashtra electoral rolls. Fadnavis accused him of spinning a false narrative ahead of the Delhi elections, predicting a Congress defeat.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has strongly refuted Rahul Gandhi’s allegations regarding voter registration discrepancies in the state’s Assembly elections. In a cryptic post on social media platform X, Fadnavis remarked, “Jab ek hi chutkula baar baar sunaya jaaye, toh uspar hasa nai karte” (When the same joke is repeated, people don’t laugh).
Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, had earlier raised concerns over an alleged irregularity where 39 lakh voters were added to Maharashtra’s electoral rolls in just five months—more than the total electorate of Himachal Pradesh. He questioned the legitimacy of these additions and accused the ruling BJP of electoral manipulation.
Fadnavis dismissed these claims, stating that the Election Commission had already responded to similar allegations. He accused Gandhi of attempting to create a false narrative ahead of the Delhi elections, predicting a Congress defeat. He added that Gandhi’s reluctance to introspect was a key reason for his party’s declining influence.
The Congress-Shiv Sena (UBT)-NCP (SCP) alliance has backed Gandhi’s claims, asserting that they found multiple irregularities in the electoral process. However, Fadnavis maintained that the accusations were politically motivated, meant to deflect from Congress’ anticipated electoral setbacks.
