In a significant turn of events, an FIR has been lodged against Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Assam. The complaint specifically targets the Yatra's chief organizer, KB Byju, for allegedly deviating from the approved route within Jorhat town. Police officials reported that the march took an unauthorized turn, causing chaos and a stampede-like situation in the area.

The FIR, filed at Jorhat Sadar Police Station, accuses the Yatra of disregarding the district administration's norms and violating road safety regulations. The official statement emphasizes that the Yatra failed to adhere to the permitted route, leading to an unexpected rush of people and subsequent incidents.

Leader of the Opposition, Debabrata Saikia, expressed his perspective on the situation, asserting that the FIR is a deliberate attempt to hinder the Yatra's progress. He highlighted the absence of police managing traffic diversion at the specified point and justified the deviation due to the assigned route being inadequate for the massive gathering.

Saikia further suggested that the Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, might be apprehensive about the Yatra's success in Assam, leading to efforts to disrupt its course. Despite the controversy, the Yatra, led by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, is set to continue its journey through Assam until January 25, covering 833 km across 17 districts.

Commencing from Manipur on January 14, the Yatra is slated to conclude on March 20 in Mumbai. Its overarching goal is to connect various regions and communities, fostering a sense of national unity. As the legal ramifications unfold, the Yatra's fate hangs in the balance amid allegations of route deviation and administrative non-compliance.
