The G20 Film Festival, celebrating the spirit of collaboration among G20 and invited nations in the realm of cinema, is set to kick off today with the iconic film "Pather Panchali" directed by Satyajit Ray. Hosted by the India International Centre (IIC) in association with the G20 Secretariat of the Ministry of External Affairs, the festival aims to explore diverse cultural narratives and global perspectives through the lens of cinema.

 

The festival's inauguration will witness the presence of distinguished actor Victor Banerjee and G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant. Running from August 16 to September 2, the event aligns with India's theme "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (One Earth, One Family, One Future), reflecting the interconnectedness of humanity and shared concerns.

K N Shrivastava, Director of IIC, highlighted the importance of the event, stating that the selected award-winning feature films delve into multifaceted themes of identity, memory, and social dynamics in each respective nation. These cinematic creations mirror the diverse array of challenges and aspirations faced by different societies.

 

Throughout the festival, audiences will have the opportunity to engage with sixteen internationally acclaimed films, including titles such as "We are Still Here" from Australia, and Brazil's "Ana. Untitled," Japan's "Aristocrats," Mexico's "Mezquite’s Heart," and South Korea's "Decision to Leave." Ambassadors and High Commissioners from various G20 countries will introduce several of these films, enhancing the cultural richness of the experience.

Admission to all screenings at the CD Deshmukh Auditorium in IIC is free and open to everyone. Through this cinematic journey, the G20 Film Festival aspires to foster cross-cultural understanding and strengthen the bonds between nations through the universal language of cinema.
