Newly elected United States Representative George Santos has been detained for

more than 13 charges including money laundering, theft of public funds and fraud. I

Federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York reported that the Republican

was indicted with 13 charges that comprise accusations of stealing public funds, two

counts of providing false statements to the House of Representatives, three counts

of money laundering and seven counts of wire fraud. He was engaged in the

laundering of funds by fraudulently leading political campaign supporters as well as

donors to pay for his own expenditure. He was also illegally claiming unemployment

benefits even though he was employed. If Santos is convicted on all of the counts,

then he might have to face up to 20 years in prison.

The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Breon Peace, stated, "Taken

together, the allegations in the indictment charge Santos with relying on repeated

dishonesty and deception to ascend to the halls of Congress and enrich himself." He

also added, "He used political contributions to line his pockets, unlawfully applied for

unemployment benefits that should have gone to New Yorkers who had lost their

jobs due to the pandemic, and lied to the House of Representatives".

Reiterating his views, FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge Michael Driscoll said, "As

today's enforcement action demonstrates, the FBI remains committed to holding all

equally accountable under the law," Driscoll said. "As we allege, Congressman

Santos committed federal crimes, and he will now be forced to face the

consequences of his actions."

It seems like Santos has lied about his entire life, personal as well as professional

It seems like Santos has lied about his entire life, personal as well as professional.

As soon as Santos's congressional office was reached for comments, they forwarded

them to his attorney, who did not respond to any request. He falsely claimed of

having studied at New York University and Baruch College as well as working at

Goldman Sachs and Citigroup. He also lied that he was Jewish.
