Goods Trains Collide in West Bengal

Two goods trains collided near Onda station in West Bengal's Bankura, causing several wagons to derail. The collision occurred at around 4 am on Sunday. It is unclear why the trains collided, as both were empty. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but one of the train drivers sustained minor injuries.

The incident has disrupted train services in the Adra division, which serves several districts in West Bengal and Jharkhand. Railway officials are working to quickly restore the upline so that trains like the Purulia Express can resume operations. The Adra division falls under the jurisdiction of the South Eastern Railway.

The railway officials said, "Both were empty goods trains, and the reason for the accident and how both trains collided is still unclear. The train services in the Adra division have been affected by this accident. Adra Division serves four districts of West Bengal, viz. West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia, and Burdwan and three districts of Jharkhand viz Dhanbad, Bokaro, and Singhbhum come under the south-eastern Railway."

This collision comes just a month after a tragic triple train collision in Odisha, which resulted in the loss of at least 275 lives. The incident occurred in the Balasore district when the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, heading towards Chennai, derailed after colliding with goods train on an adjacent track. The impact caused the rear carriage of the Coromandel Express to veer off onto a third track.

Kolkata, June 25: Two goods trains collided with each other near Onda station in West Bengal’s Bankura district on Sunday, resulting in the derailment of 13 wagons.

Unfortunately, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, traveling in the opposite direction on the third track, collided with the derailed coaches. This sequence of events led to a devastating accident. The collision happened around 7 pm near the Bahanaga Bazar station, approximately 250 km south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar.
