Gujarat is in a very bad shape as the flood situation remains grim in the state and 28 people have been killed in the last three days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put out a ‘red’ warning for several areas and has said that more heavy rain is on its way.
A deep depression over Saurashtra and Kachchh is likely to deepen further while moving towards the northeast Arabian Sea which may further worsen the already grim situation. The IMD has predicted very heavy rains in 12 districts of Saurashtra and Kutch region including Kachchh, Jamnagar, Rajkot and Bhavnagar.
The Saurashtra region has been worst affected, some of the areas received between 50mm to 200mm of rain in 12 hours on Wednesday. Out of all the talukas in Devbhumi Dwarka district, Bhanvad taluka received the highest rainfall of 185mm during this period.

In response to the crisis, there are huge rescue and relief operations that are being conducted. Six Army contingents have been deployed to support 14 NDRF and 22 SDRF teams. About 40,000 people have been displaced from the flood-prone zones, of which more than 5,000 have been resettled.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has been briefed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has promised all the support from the central government. CM Patel has called on authorities to evacuate people and concentrate on delivering food, water, and medical assistance to those who are stuck in the floods.
While Gujarat is expecting more rains, the authorities remain active in their attempts to lessen the effects of this record breaking flooding event.
