Gunfights Erupt in Manipur Amid Ongoing Tensions

Gunfights erupted in Manipur as suspected Kuki militants attacked Koutruk and Tronglaobi villages, leading to intense exchanges of fire with state forces. Drones were reported in the area, raising concerns among residents. Meanwhile, two members of the banned People's Liberation Army were arrested in Tengnoupal district.

Fresh violence erupted in Manipur on Saturday night as suspected Kuki militants attacked two villages, Koutruk and Tronglaobi, leading to intense gunfights and explosions. The incidents occurred in Imphal West and Bishnupur districts, raising concerns over the escalating conflict in the region.
Around 7 PM, militants launched an assault on Koutruk Ching Leikai village, utilizing sophisticated firearms and explosives. State forces stationed in the area responded, resulting in a four-hour-long exchange of gunfire. An anonymous local resident reported seeing a drone, allegedly operated by Kuki militants, during the confrontation. The resident expressed fear of aerial assaults, recalling a drone bombing incident in early September.
In the Bishnupur district, suspected Kuki militants targeted Tronglaobi village at approximately 9:15 PM, firing from the Geljang and Molshang areas. Police and local volunteers retaliated, engaging in a firefight. No casualties have been reported from either incident.

Authorities have heightened their preparedness, with police indicating that Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel are equipped to intercept any unauthorized drones in the vicinity.
Additionally, two members of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were apprehended in Tengnoupal district. Identified as N Priyo Singh and S Devjit Singh, both aged 21, they were arrested near border pillar number 87 and subsequently handed over to local police.
