Newlywed Sonam Raghuvanshi and her lover Raj Kushwaha plotted her husband's murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. A rare machete and a phone call exposed the plan. Raja's body was found in a gorge, and all accused, including Sonam, have been arrested following a multi-state investigation.

What began as a romantic getaway ended in a gruesome crime when newlyweds Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. Just weeks after their wedding on May 11 in Indore, the couple opted for a trip to the scenic hills of Meghalaya after scrapping initial plans to visit Kashmir. But what seemed like a peaceful retreat turned into a calculated murder plotted by Sonam and her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha.
The couple was last seen on May 23 after checking out from a homestay in Nongriat. A day later, their rented scooter was found abandoned. The real breakthrough came on June 2, when Raja's decomposed body was discovered in a deep gorge near the Wei Sawdong waterfall. A tattoo on his hand confirmed his identity. The autopsy revealed fatal head injuries, confirming murder.
The trail led investigators to a machete not native to the area, sparking suspicion. This, combined with phone records showing Sonam's contact with one of the accused before the murder, unraveled the conspiracy. Investigators revealed that Sonam and Kushwaha plotted Raja’s murder shortly after the wedding, hiring three others to carry out the crime.

Sonam’s attempt to vanish failed when she used a borrowed phone at a dhaba in Ghazipur to contact her parents. The call led authorities to her location, resulting in her arrest on June 9. Kushwaha and two other accomplices had already been detained from various locations in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
What was planned as a perfect crime collapsed under a single misstep, unraveling a chilling tale of betrayal and murder in the hills of Meghalaya.
