Hurricane Helene has devastated the US Southeast, killing at least 64 people and leaving millions without power. The storm made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 140 mph before moving through Georgia, the Carolinas, and Tennessee, causing catastrophic flooding, landslides, and widespread destruction.

In Florida’s Big Bend region, entire communities were left homeless, while Georgia’s governor likened the storm’s impact to a bomb explosion. In North Carolina, severe flooding isolated areas, leading to dramatic rescues, including airlifts from hospital rooftops. President Joe Biden called the destruction “overwhelming” and approved disaster declarations to aid affected regions.

Helene's impact is one of the deadliest in recent history, with damage estimates ranging from $95 billion to $110 billion. The storm’s rapid intensification, fueled by warming waters linked to climate change, has sparked renewed concerns about the increasing severity of hurricanes.
