A tragic incident in Hyderabad has claimed the life of a six-year-old boy after the main gate of a government school fell on him. The accident occurred on Monday evening as the boy was leaving Zilla Parishad High School in Hayathnagar. The heavy metallic gate, reportedly installed only a few months ago, detached from its hinges and fell, severely injuring the child. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital but succumbed to his injuries that night.
The child’s parents, both municipal garbage collectors, were devastated by the incident, leading them to file a case against the school under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), which mandates an inquiry into suspicious deaths. Hayathnagar’s Inspector of Police, P Nagaraju Goud, confirmed the case, attributing the collapse to possible negligence in the gate’s installation and maintenance.
The tragic event sparked local outrage, with family members and residents staging a protest outside the school on Tuesday, demanding accountability from the authorities. Community members alleged negligence, citing the school’s failure to ensure the gate’s safety. A local resident noted that the incident could have been prevented with proper quality checks during the gate’s installation.
