Samajwadi
Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq has voiced strong opposition against the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for proposing inclusion of
epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata in textbooks. Barq vehemently advocates for
the incorporation of the Quran in the curriculum, asserting its unparalleled
significance above all other texts.
Expressing
his views on the matter, Barq emphasized the Quran's divine origin, stating,
"There is no greater book in the world than the Quran. It is not written
by us or the people of the country but by Allah himself. Therefore, it should
find a place in NCERT." His stance reflects a firm belief in the Quran's
value as a literary and spiritual guide.
The
ongoing debate stems from a recommendation made by a seven-member NCERT
committee formed last year. This committee proposed including epics such as the
Ramayana and the Mahabharata in social sciences textbooks, alongside inscribing
the Preamble of the Constitution on classroom walls. However, the NCERT has yet
to make a definitive decision regarding these suggestions.
This controversy amplifies discussions about religious inclusivity in educational frameworks and the implications of emphasizing certain texts in the national curriculum. As the NCERT revises the school syllabus in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the discourse intensifies.

Shafiqur
Rahman Barq's consistent presence in the news due to his outspoken statements
adds weight to discussions around societal and educational reforms. Beyond this
specific debate, Barq has been vocal about other governmental decisions,
particularly expressing discontent over the ban on Halal products. He perceives
these actions as reflective of anti-Muslim sentiments within government
policies.
Accusing the Chief Minister and BJP leaders of fostering an anti-Muslim agenda, Barq stands firm in advocating for Muslim rights and equality. He emphasizes that Muslims, like any other religious or caste group in the country, deserve equal respect and rights, underscoring their historical contributions and sacrifices for the nation.
