India Aims to Become Global Hub for Green Hydrogen Production: PM Modi

India is striving to become a global leader in green hydrogen production, as highlighted by PM Modi during the Green Hydrogen India 2024 conference. The National Green Hydrogen Mission is driving innovation and investment in the sector, aiming to decarbonize industries and create green jobs while addressing the impacts of climate change.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India's ambitious goal to become a global leader in the production, utilization, and export of green hydrogen. Speaking at the International Conference on Green Hydrogen India 2024, organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, PM Modi highlighted the importance of green hydrogen in decarbonizing industries and the country’s commitment to advancing this technology.
“The National Green Hydrogen Mission is driving innovation, infrastructure, and investment,” Modi said. The mission is set to accelerate the development of green hydrogen through partnerships between industry and academia, and by fostering startups and entrepreneurs in this sector. With the growing demand for sustainable energy, India aims to not only produce green hydrogen but also create a thriving ecosystem for green jobs, supporting skill development for the youth in this emerging industry.
PM Modi stressed that the impacts of climate change are being felt in the present, emphasizing the need for immediate action. "Energy transition and sustainability are at the heart of global policy discussions," he added, urging collective and innovative solutions to combat climate challenges.

India, which has already achieved its Paris Agreement commitments nine years ahead of schedule, continues to focus on green energy. In the past decade, India’s non-fossil fuel capacity has surged by nearly 300%, and solar energy capacity has risen by over 3,000%. With the National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in 2023, the country is paving the way for a cleaner, greener future.
