In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) successfully extradited Lashkar-e-Taiba operative Salman Rehman Khan from Rwanda on November 28. Khan, wanted for his role in supplying arms and explosives to further terrorist activities in Bengaluru, had been on the run since an FIR was lodged against him in 2023.

Khan’s criminal activities came to light following an investigation by Bengaluru police into a weapons cache that included pistols, grenades, and other equipment intended for attacks. His involvement extended to radicalizing inmates at Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, highlighting his deep integration into Lashkar-e-Taiba’s operations.

Interpol issued a Red Notice for Khan in August 2024, leading to his eventual location in Rwanda. Indian authorities, working closely with Interpol’s Kigali bureau, coordinated his capture and deportation. Khan is the 26th high-profile criminal extradited to India this year, underscoring India’s increasing success in bringing fugitives to justice through international cooperation.

Khan’s extradition is part of a broader crackdown on terror networks, with recent operations targeting other fugitives such as Barkat Ali Khan, extradited from Saudi Arabia, and Raihan Arabikkalalarikkal, returned to Kerala on November 10 for crimes involving sexual offences. Indian agencies, leveraging Interpol’s global reach, have repatriated over 100 fugitives since 2021.

Khan is now in NIA custody, and investigations continue to unravel his network and potential links to larger terror plots.
