The IPL 2025 has been suspended indefinitely due to escalating military conflict between India and Pakistan. Following missile strikes and retaliatory attacks, a match in Dharamsala was abruptly halted over security concerns. With foreign players uneasy and flights suspended, the BCCI prioritized safety, leaving the tournament’s future uncertain.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended indefinitely as rising military tensions between India and Pakistan prompted serious security concerns. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the decision on Friday, emphasizing the safety of players and spectators as the top priority. The move follows heightened unrest after India launched missile strikes on terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians last month.

The situation intensified on May 8 when Pakistan launched retaliatory attacks on Indian border regions including Jammu, Pathankot, and districts in Punjab and Rajasthan. Amid these developments, a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala—less than 100 kilometers from the flashpoint Pathankot—was abruptly halted. Air raid alerts had been issued in the area, leading to an emergency evacuation of the stadium. Players and officials were alerted to the threat after floodlights failed, originally suspected to be a technical issue.

Sources inside the IPL revealed that foreign players, especially Australians, expressed grave concerns and began considering early exits from India. The BCCI’s decision followed urgent consultations with central and state security agencies. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal indicated the decision to resume the tournament would depend on government advisories and regional stability.

Dharamsala saw 80% of its stadium filled when the match was called off. The crowd exited under military supervision, chanting slogans amid palpable tension. Flight services in and out of the region were halted, and teams were escorted under high security.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has shifted its remaining Pakistan Super League matches to the UAE, underscoring the scale of the regional instability. As of now, the fate of the IPL 2025 season remains uncertain.
