Kailash Gahlot, formerly with AAP, is leading in Bijwasan as a BJP candidate, ahead of Surender Bhardwaj. His political shift and past victories make him a strong contender. The final results will determine whether BJP regains its foothold in the constituency, impacting the overall Delhi assembly elections.

Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kailash Gahlot, who switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in November 2024, is currently leading in the Bijwasan constituency against AAP’s Surender Bhardwaj. Early trends indicate Gahlot is ahead by 6,685 votes.
Gahlot, a seasoned politician and former Delhi transport minister, previously represented the Najafgarh constituency, securing victories for AAP in 2015 and 2020. His transition to BJP marked a significant political shift, especially given his prior role in Kejriwal’s cabinet.
Bijwasan, which was once a BJP stronghold, saw AAP victories in the last two assembly elections. However, the ruling party faces stiff competition this time, particularly due to recent political shifts and Gahlot’s strong presence.
Political analysts believe Gahlot's experience and local influence may work in his favour. His previous wins in Najafgarh, including a decisive victory in 2020 with 49.86% of the votes, reflect his electoral appeal. Meanwhile, AAP has been trying to maintain its dominance amid leadership transitions and governance challenges.
The BJP's decision to field Gahlot in Bijwasan is seen as a strategic move to reclaim lost ground. The constituency witnessed a three-way contest, with Congress also fielding Devinder Sahrawat. The final results, expected by the end of the day, will determine whether Gahlot’s switch to BJP translates into electoral success.
