Because of the Nipah virus, all schools and colleges in Kozhikode, Kerala, will be closed for a week until September 24. But don’t worry; students will still have online classes during this time.


The Health Minister, Veena George, said that right now, there are 1,080 people on the list who had contact with the infected ones. Today, they added 130 more people to that list. Out of these, 327 are healthcare workers. In other districts, 29 people are also on the list. Most of them, 22, are from Malappuram, and a few are from Wayanad, Kannur, and Thrissur.

In the high-risk group, 175 are regular people, and 122 are healthcare workers. The Health Minister also said that more people might be added to the list because the test result of the person who died on August 30 shows they had Nipah, and this is the first case in the district.


So far, there have been six confirmed cases of Nipah Virus in the state. Seventeen people who attended the funeral of the person who died on August 30 are now isolated. Four of the active cases are in hospitals.

All hospitals treating Nipah cases have to create a medical board that meets twice a day and reports to the health department. The district collector made this order based on the state’s rules for infectious diseases.
