Three Vijayapura labourers were confined and assaulted by their employer after deciding to quit their jobs. The victims sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment. Authorities condemned the act and pledged strict action against the culprits. Labour shortages in the industry are believed to be a contributing factor.

Three labourers at a brick manufacturing unit in Vijayapura were allegedly confined and assaulted by their employer after expressing their intention to quit, police reported. The victims, identified as Sadashiva Madar, Sadashiva Babaladi, and Umesh Madar, are receiving treatment for serious injuries at a government hospital.
According to Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbaragi, the incident occurred on January 16. The labourers had returned to the factory in Gandhi Nagar after taking leave for the Makara Sankranti festival to collect their belongings. Upon learning about their decision to resign, factory owner Khemu Rathod and his relatives allegedly confined them in a godown and beat them with PVC pipes and sticks for three days.
When the workers’ health deteriorated due to the injuries, the accused admitted them to the hospital, which brought the incident to light. The factory is known to offer daily wages of ₹600 for eight-hour shifts along with shared accommodation.
Local MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal condemned the attack, labelling it “unacceptable.” He urged SP Nimbaragi to ensure strict action against the culprits, emphasising the need to prevent such incidents in the future.
