Tragedy deepened in Lucknow as the death toll from Saturday's building collapse in the Transport Nagar area climbed to eight. Rescue teams recovered three more bodies from the debris on Sunday morning, adding to the grim tally of lives lost in this devastating incident. The collapse has also left 28 people injured, marking it as one of the most severe structural failures in the city's recent history.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) identified the latest victims as Raj Kishore (27), Rudra Yadav (24), and Jagrup Singh (35). Their bodies were extricated during ongoing rescue operations, as confirmed by Relief Commissioner G S Naveen. With these recoveries, authorities are now focusing their efforts on ensuring no one else remains trapped under the rubble.

The ill-fated structure, known as the 'Harmilap Building', housed a pharmaceutical warehouse, a motor workshop, and various other businesses. The collapse occurred around 5 pm on Saturday, catching many workers off guard. Eyewitness accounts suggest that most victims were working on the ground floor when the building gave way.

Akash Singh, one of the injured survivors working in the medical godown, provided a chilling account of the moments leading up to the collapse. "We had come down to the ground floor because it was raining. We noticed that a crack had developed on a pillar of the building. Suddenly, the entire building collapsed on us," he recounted.

The incident has drawn immediate attention from top government officials. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed district officials to accelerate relief efforts and ensure prompt medical care for the injured. The Chief Minister's office stated on social media platform X, "UP CM Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the building collapse incident in Transport Nagar, Lucknow," emphasizing the urgency of the rescue and relief operations.

Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh also expressed his sorrow over the deaths. In a statement on X, Singh said, "The news of the collapse of a building in Lucknow is extremely painful. I have spoken to the District Magistrate of Lucknow over the phone and got information about the situation at the spot. The local administration is carrying out relief and rescue operations on the spot and is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way."

As rescue operations continue, questions are arising about the structural integrity of the building. Officials noted that the structure, constructed about four years ago, was undergoing some construction work at the time of the collapse. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of building safety and adherence to construction standards in rapidly developing urban areas.
