Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin slammed BJP for changing Doordarshan's logo to saffron, accusing it of "saffronising" everything, including Tamil poet Tiruvalluvar. BJP defended the move, stating orange was Doordarshan's original 1982 color.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has made a decisive statement against the BJP regarding the blueprint of the national television channel Doordarshan, which intends to change its logo from red to saffron or orange. Stalin pointed a finger at the BJP for the 'saffronisation' of Tiruvalluvar, the respected Tamil poet.

In a cross-post (formerly Twitter), a DMK lawmaker said that the intention was not to give Doordarshan a "saffron tint." 'The changes, such as the logo, are just a prelude to saffronizing everything,' Stalin tweeted, then added that the outcome of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will prove that 'the public shall reject such adamancy.'

Stalin's verbal barrage stems from the opposition terming the change in Doordarshan's logo as "wantonly illegal" and partisan to the BJP. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee claimed it to be unethical and an indication of bias towards the ruling party.

Nevertheless, the BJP has defended its move, with party leader Amit Malviya stating that the orange color was part of Doordarshan's original 1982 logo when it transitioned from a regional broadcast network to a national network after the launch of color television in India. "Sorry, we just reclaimed it," Malviya answered.

The discussion has brought another log to the burning political polemic debate preceding the crucial 2024 elections. The opposition actively campaigns against the BJP's Hindutva agenda, while the saffron party denies the charges of saffronization.

Bringing the war of words to a close, the change in the Doordarshan logo is the newest focal point that the ruling party and some critics accuse of lacking autonomy and impartiality in institutions.
