Meerut police swiftly arrested 55-year-old Naseer Ahmad within 24 hours after he allegedly sent threatening letters demanding ₹50 lakh from local furniture trader Fazlurrahman. Ahmad, a resident of Kabristan ke Paas, Bhumia ka Pul under Lisadi Gate police station, was apprehended following a targeted investigation by a special police team.
The incident came to light when Fazlurrahman, who lives in Indira Chowk, filed a complaint at Kotwali police station after receiving two threatening letters via speed post. The letters warned him of severe consequences if he informed authorities. Acting on the Senior Superintendent of Police’s directives, a special team under the supervision of the City Superintendent of Police and Kotwali Circle Officer was quickly formed.
Using CCTV surveillance and local intelligence, police traced Ahmad to Khatta Road, leading to his prompt arrest. Ahmad is now in custody and is being presented before the court, with further investigation underway to determine if additional individuals were involved in the extortion plot.
In a related case, police in Mumbra, Maharashtra, registered an FIR against three individuals — Prashant Kadam, Uday Bansode, and Amit Patil — for allegedly extorting ₹8 lakh from a builder by impersonating civic officials. Claiming his construction project was illegal, they threatened demolition and legal action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. The builder, who initially paid ₹20,000, later approached police.
