Tannu Rajput, missing since April, was found murdered and buried outside her in-laws’ Faridabad home. Her father-in-law confessed after interrogation. Police suspect dowry or personal disputes as the motive. Her husband and others are absconding, and a murder case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The mystery surrounding the disappearance of 25-year-old Tannu Rajput ended in tragedy after her decomposed body was found buried in a soak-pit outside her marital home in Faridabad’s Roshan Nagar on Friday. She had been missing since April 25. Police have now registered a murder case against her husband, Arun Singh, and his family members.

Rajput, married to Arun in 2023, was initially reported missing by her husband, who claimed she was intellectually challenged and had eloped. However, investigators later uncovered that this narrative was a deliberate attempt to hide a brutal crime.

The breakthrough came after police, acting on suspicions raised by Rajput’s family in Uttar Pradesh, interrogated Arun’s father, Bhoop Singh. During questioning, he confessed to the murder and revealed the body had been buried in a pit originally dug for a sewer connection. A JCB machine was brought in to excavate the site, revealing the body nearly eight feet deep. Her remains were identified by her family based on the clothes she was last seen wearing.

Inspector Satya Parkash, SHO of Palla police station, said the pit had been filled with sand after the murder. Neighbours were misled to believe she had eloped, as the family feigned concern and claimed they were searching for her.

Preliminary findings suggest dowry or a suspected extramarital affair as possible motives. Rajput’s family has firmly denied the claim that she was mentally unwell and has accused the in-laws of killing her over dowry demands.

The police have transformed the case into a murder investigation under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Several members of the Singh family, including Arun Singh, are currently absconding. Bhoop Singh, who runs a tailoring shop from the house, is in custody as the investigation continues.
