Mizoram Police Seize Heroin Worth Rs 17 Crore

In a significant drug bust, Mizoram Police successfully confiscated a large number of contraband drugs valued at over Rs 17 crore. Acting on specific intelligence, officers from the Mamit Police intercepted a Bolero pickup with Tripura registration in Mamit town and apprehended two individuals in connection with the case.

The seizure took place on June 24, when Md Idrish Miah, a resident of Tripura, was driving the intercepted vehicle. Accompanied by a colleague, Miah aroused suspicion among the vigilant police officers, who then proceeded to search the Bolero pickup.

To their surprise, they discovered a secret compartment concealed within the vehicle, containing a staggering 3.47 kilograms of heroin drugs.

The narcotics, carefully concealed in 270 soap cases, were estimated to be worth more than Rs 17 crore on the black market. The police wasted no time in taking both individuals into custody, identifying them as the driver, Md Idrish Miah, and his colleague, whose identity has not yet been disclosed.

Officials have confirmed that a case has been registered against the arrested persons under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985. The rigorous legal provisions under this act are aimed at curbing drug trafficking and ensuring that those involved in such activities face severe consequences.
