A nurse in Uttar Pradesh allegedly demanded ₹5,100 from a family after the birth of their child, delaying critical care and leading to the infant’s death. A formal complaint has been lodged, and an investigation has been launched. The nurse has been transferred, and a committee is investigating the incident.
A family in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, has accused a nurse of delaying critical care for their newborn, resulting in the baby's death. Sujit Kumar, the father, claims that after his wife delivered a healthy baby boy, nurse Jyoti demanded ₹5,100 as a fee. When the family couldn’t immediately pay, the nurse reportedly placed the baby on a table and refused to hand him over, leading to a 40-minute delay. By the time Sujit managed to pay the amount, the baby’s health had deteriorated. The child was rushed to Saifai Medical College for treatment but tragically died soon after arrival.
The incident has sparked outrage, with the family blaming the nurse's refusal to provide immediate care as the cause of death. Doctors at Saifai Medical College confirmed that inadequate care during the labor process was a contributing factor. A formal complaint has been filed, and the local Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. RC Gupta, has launched an investigation. A three-member committee has been set up to probe the incident, and Nurse Jyoti has been transferred pending the investigation's outcome. The findings are expected to be revealed within three days.
