Mumbai Indians dasher Suryakumar Yadav's unexpected lean run has caught the unwanted attention of the former head coach of the India national cricket team, Ravi Shastri.

Suryakumar’s Disappointing Performance

Shastri, once the captain of the Indian Cricket team, bashed Suryakumar’s poor performance, who has so far managed just 15 and one in his two outings. He has scored three successive golden ducks in ODIs last month in the one-day series against Australia at home leading to him creating a record of becoming the first Indian batter to do so. His setback has left many shocked, including the former Indian skipper.

Shastri’s Statement

While speaking at an interview for 'ESPNCricinfo' ahead of the match, Shastri said, "There's going to be light at the end of the tunnel, he's going to be seeing that very soon" "And when he sees that, he's going to grab it and make the most of it,” he added. He also advised Yadav, stating, "So the advice to him would be just giving yourself a little bit of time early on, even though it's T20 cricket." Shastri suggested to Yadav, "One good hit and you're on your way. That's what he needs – one good hit and a little bit of time at the crease," he added. "Not 20-30 minutes, maybe six balls or eight balls, and I think he'd be fine," he remarked.

Seems like the cricketer is going through a rough patch, once known for his ability to play incredible shots when on a song. Yadav has a strike rate of over 175 in T20 Internationals, earning himself words of encouragement from former Australia captain Ricky Ponting. The former Australian skipper praised Suryakumar ahead of the ODI World Cup, which will be hosted by India, later this year, saying, "Everyone around the world knows what Surya can do in white-ball cricket. They should stick with him, I feel. Because he is, I think, the kind of player that can win you a World Cup," Ponting said last week.
