Operation Kaveri Soars High to Bring in The Second Batch of Stranded Indians, 246 Rescued

The second flight under Operation Kaveri evacuated 246 Indians that were stuck in Sudan.


Operation Kaveri’s Second Batch

The operation was launched by the Indian government to rescue Indians that are stuck in the war zone of Sudan. While the first flight sent on Wednesday brought back 360 Indians, on Thursday the second flight saved 246 Indians from the fighting in Sudan and safely brought them back to Mumbai from Saudi Arabia's Jeddah. The aircraft carrier used in Operation Kaveri is the Indian Air Force's C-17 Globemaster heavy lift aircraft. In addition to this, two C-130J medium lift aircraft of the IAF have been stationed in Saudi Arabia.

Along with sharing pictures of the evacuation, external affairs minister S Jaishankar expressed his happiness on Twitter by tweeting "Another #OperationKaveri flight comes to Mumbai. 246 more Indians come back to the motherland". Union Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan, who is overseeing the rescue operations in Jeddah, tweeted, “Our efforts to speedily bring back Indians from Jeddah are paying off” minutes before the flight left for Operation Kaveri.

 

Not only the Indian air force but also the Indian Navy is working relentlessly to bring back the Indian nationals to their motherland. While on Thursday, INS Teg evacuated 297 Indians from Port Sudan to Jeddah, INS Sumedha had already brought back 278 Indians on Wednesday. Naval warships are stationed to execute swift military maneuvers over the Red Sea to carry the Indians arriving in Port Sudan to Jeddah.

Operation Kaveri: 250 more Indians rescued from conflict-ridden Sudan

Operation Kaveri has been successful in rescuing over 1,700 Indian nationals from the war zone of Sudan. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra has said that the government aims to get every citizen out of harm's way as soon as possible. Muraleedharan also informed that around 1,100 Indians have been safely evacuated from strife-torn Sudan. "#OperationKaveri continues at a swift pace. Happy to receive 297 Indians at Jeddah carried by INS Teg. With this second ship and a total of six batches, around 1,100 Indians rescued from Sudan have arrived in Jeddah. Repatriation to India of those arriving today will commence shortly", he tweeted.
