Two French prison officers were killed and one inmate escaped after an ambush on their van in Normandy. Gunmen fired on the convoy, and a massive manhunt was underway for the escapee and attackers.
During the Tuesday morning attack, French prison officers lost two men and three others were seriously wounded by the fire from the prison van's ambush in Rouen, Normandy.
The assault was around 11 a.m. local time close to an exit toll on the A154 highway and a prison van was transporting an inmate back to jail in Évreux after a court hearing in Rouen. Several suspects wearing hoods came to the vehicles by two vehicles and opened fire, according to reports.
It is confirmed that the prisoner who was being transported has escaped along with the attackers, Eric Dupond-Moretti the French Justice Minister says. Justice Minister said the Ministry’s crisis unit has been called into action to deal with this crisis.
The Minister of Interior Gerald Darmanin asserted that “all possible ways” are now being utilized to find the escapee and the attackers. The chief of police claimed that several hundred officers and gendarmes were already stationed in the area.
Some of the videos that are going viral on the internet and are not true seem to have the armed, hooded men approaching the prison van convoy during the ambush. It is said the get-away car was burnt out and found close to the crime scene after the attack.
