Pakistan foreign minister Ishaq Dar will visit China for trilateral talks with China and Afghanistan following India's Operation Sindoor. This marks Dar’s first foreign trip post-conflict. The discussions will address regional security and trade, as China plays a pivotal role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister Ishaq Dar is set to travel to China on Monday for high-level diplomatic meetings, marking his first foreign visit since the escalation of hostilities with India following Operation Sindoor. Dar will meet Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi and also hold discussions with Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, who is scheduled to arrive in China on Tuesday.

The trip comes in the aftermath of India's Operation Sindoor, a series of precision military strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, launched in retaliation to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The Indian operation targeted key locations of terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, reportedly killing over a hundred militants.

During the brief but intense four-day conflict, Pakistan attempted retaliatory strikes on Indian military bases, which were repelled by India’s indigenous air defence systems, including the Akash Teer missile platform. The Indian Air Force also targeted Pakistani air bases such as Rahim Yar Khan, crippling their radar capabilities.

Dar’s visit to China signals Islamabad’s strategic pivot towards regional allies amid rising tensions with India. The trilateral meeting between Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan is expected to focus on security cooperation, economic collaboration, and regional stability. China had previously welcomed the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, calling it essential for long-term peace.

The choice of Beijing for Dar’s first diplomatic outreach since the conflict is seen as significant, underlining China’s role as a key stakeholder in South Asian geopolitics. With evolving regional dynamics and growing security concerns, the outcome of these meetings could shape future alignments in the region.
