Pakistan’s Top Court Judges Sympathize With The Former PM
The former head of state, who has now been released from custody, informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan about his alleged abduction from the Islamabad high court to which the Chief Justice of Pakistan reacted stating that this was ‘a disgrace to the country's judicial establishment’. He also alleged that he was beaten by sticks. The bench that ordered Imran Khan’s release consisted of CJP Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar. The judges were extremely unhappy with the way Khan was treated and taken into custody.
Pakistan's Geo TV reported that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief was produced before the court in a convoy of fifteen vehicles. The courtroom was closed as soon as he entered the court premises, and he was kept amidst tight security throughout.
When Bandial saw Khan, he said, "It is good to see you". He urged The PTI chief to request his supporters to not engage in the violent protests that are currently happening all over the nation. Though Khan said he was not aware of anything that happened after he was arrested, he guaranteed that no damage will be done to the country. The CJP declared, "We believe that Imran Khan's arrest was illegal". He also remarked, “What dignity remains of the court if 90 people entered its premises? How can any individual be arrested from court premises?” while pointing to the fact that Khan was arrested from the Islamabad High Court premises, where more than 90 to 100 Rangers personnel entered the court to detain him.
