Pakistan’s security forces have killed 16 militants and rescued 104 hostages after the Jaffar Express was hijacked by BLA militants in Balochistan. The operation continues as some passengers remain captive. Authorities have set up emergency desks for concerned families amid growing security threats in the region.

Pakistan’s security forces have launched a major counterterrorism operation after militants hijacked the Jaffar Express in Balochistan on Tuesday. At least 16 militants have been killed, and 104 passengers rescued as authorities continue efforts to free the remaining hostages.
The train, carrying around 400 passengers, was en route from Quetta to Peshawar when it was intercepted in a tunnel near the remote mountainous regions of Gudalar and Piru Kunri by armed men associated with the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Following intense gunfire and explosions, security personnel reached the scene and engaged in a prolonged battle with the hijackers.
According to official sources, the operation is ongoing as some hostages have reportedly been taken deeper into the mountains. The military has deployed additional forces, surrounding the tunnel to prevent the militants’ escape. Rescued passengers—including 58 men, 31 women, and 15 children—have been transported to the town of Mach for medical assistance and safety.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that earlier efforts had successfully freed 80 hostages. However, with more passengers still in captivity, authorities remain focused on securing their release. Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways has set up emergency desks in Quetta and Peshawar to assist distressed relatives searching for their loved ones.

The attack highlights growing security concerns in Balochistan, a region that has witnessed frequent militant attacks. The hijacking comes months after a deadly suicide bombing at Quetta railway station that killed 26 people. Security forces remain on high alert, determined to neutralize the remaining militants and ensure the passengers' safety.
