On Monday night, officials reported that a vehicle in Balochistan's Panjgur district was targeted by a landmine blast, resulting in the tragic death of seven individuals, which included a Union Council (UC) chairman.
Amjad Somro, the deputy commissioner of Panjgur, stated that miscreants had planted a remote explosive device with the intention of targeting a vehicle transporting Balgatar UC Chairman Ishtiaq Yaqoob and other individuals who were on their way back from a wedding ceremony.
Reportedly, upon reaching Chakar Bazar in the Balgatar region, the explosive device was triggered, leading to the unfortunate loss of lives. The individuals who lost their lives were named as Mohammad Yaqoob, Ibrahim, Wajid, Fida Hussain, Sarfaraz, and Haider, originating from Baltagar and Panjgur. Relatives of the deceased confirmed the identities of four victims at a medical facility.
In September 2014, Yakub Balgatri, the father of Ishaq Balgatri, along with ten companions, lost their lives in the same vicinity. The banned Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) took responsibility for that assault. There are concerns among officials that the same organization might be implicated in today's occurrence, as reported by the Express Tribune.
Additional information about the incident is pending.
