An Indian Army para commando was killed and two others injured during a fierce gunfight with terrorists in the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Thursday, just two days after the devastating Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The operation, launched on the basis of specific intelligence, is ongoing, with additional reinforcements deployed to the area.

The fallen soldier, Havaldar Jhantu Ali Shaikh of the elite 6 PARA Special Forces unit, was remembered for his exceptional bravery and sacrifice. The Indian Army expressed solidarity with his family, stating that his courage would never be forgotten. The two injured soldiers, also from the same battalion, are undergoing treatment.

Security forces, acting on inputs about terrorist presence, initiated a cordon and search operation in the hilly terrain. The White Knight Corps confirmed the gunfight, noting that contact was established shortly after the operation began, leading to a prolonged and intense exchange of fire.

The encounter in Udhampur appears to be part of broader efforts to dismantle terrorist groups suspected to be behind or linked to the Pahalgam massacre. Intelligence reports suggest that the terrorists involved may have infiltrated through the Hiranagar sector and are part of a larger network operating in the region.

Simultaneously, security operations are also underway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. Troops from the Army’s Romeo Force, along with the CRPF and local police, have launched search operations in the Lasana forest belt, acting on similar intelligence about terrorist movement.
