Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to the United States on February 12-13, announced Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Friday. During the visit, he is scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump, making him one of the first global leaders to engage with Trump following his second-term inauguration.

Addressing a media briefing, Misri stated, “PM Modi’s visit underscores the close diplomatic ties between India and the US. Discussions will focus on strengthening trade, technology collaboration, and global security.” The visit comes shortly after Trump extended an official invitation to Modi, reaffirming the strategic alliance between the two nations.

On January 27, Modi and Trump spoke over the phone, discussing cooperation in defence, trade, and regional security. Modi highlighted the importance of maintaining a "trusted and mutually beneficial partnership" to promote global stability.

Bilateral trade remains a key focus, with India and the US surpassing $118 billion in trade volume during 2023-24. India is particularly keen on advancing trade relations and improving access to skilled worker visas. As geopolitical tensions in the Indo-Pacific region persist, both countries are expected to explore ways to enhance strategic cooperation.

The visit is expected to include high-level meetings with business leaders and key stakeholders from both nations. Analysts predict discussions on emerging technologies, defence collaborations, and climate initiatives.

The US and India have shared a strong diplomatic relationship, with past visits by both leaders further solidifying their bond. Modi's upcoming visit aims to reinforce this partnership and expand bilateral engagements across multiple sectors.
