Udhayanidhi Stalin, a member of the DMK, compared Sanatan Dharma to diseases like dengue and malaria, stating that it should be eradicated rather than merely opposed. He drew parallels between Sanatan Dharma practices and social issues like Sati and child marriages. Despite facing backlash, Udhayanidhi stood firm in his stance, citing the research of Periyar and Ambedkar to support his views.



Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam Chief Minister and a prominent BJP leader, refrained from condemning Udhayanidhi's statements directly. Instead, he questioned the Congress party's alliance with the DMK, suggesting that it was a test of their commitment to Sanatan Dharma. Sarma argued that failure to take action against Udhayanidhi's statements would lead people to believe that the Congress is anti-Hindu.

This development has left the Congress party facing a dilemma as it navigates its alliance with the DMK and addresses concerns over its stance on Sanatan Dharma.
