Delhi, Budget being Presented Today Assembly:-
New Delhi: The much-awaited Budget for 2023-24 is all set to be presented by the Delhi Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot at 11 am today at the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The approval for the presentation of the budget was granted by the Union home ministry, after two days of verbal tussling between the Centre and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
The presentation of the Budget was delayed due to the Centre's objection to the AAP government's decision to introduce a new 'compensation cess' on petrol and diesel to fund its ambitious schemes. The Centre had argued that the cess would lead to a burden on the common man and had demanded its withdrawal.
However, the AAP government had maintained that the cess was necessary to generate revenue for its flagship schemes, including the much-touted free electricity for households and free rides for women in public transport.
After two days of heated arguments, the Union home ministry finally gave the nod for the presentation of the Budget, which is expected to be a comprehensive one, with a focus on healthcare, education, infrastructure, and job creation.
The Budget is also expected to give a boost to the city's economy, which has been severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Delhi government has already announced a slew of measures to support small businesses and provide relief to those affected by the pandemic, and the Budget is likely to have further provisions in this regard.
Speaking about the Budget, Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot said, "We have tried to ensure that the Budget is a balanced one, which takes care of the needs of all sections of the society. We have given priority to sectors like healthcare, education, and infrastructure, which are essential for the overall development of the city."
He added, "The Budget also focuses on job creation and supporting small businesses, which have been hit hard by the pandemic. We hope that the Budget will help in reviving the economy and providing much-needed relief to the people."
The Budget is also expected to have provisions for addressing the issue of air pollution in the city, which has become a major concern in recent years. The Delhi government has already taken several measures to combat air pollution, including the implementation of the Odd-Even scheme and the introduction of electric buses.
Overall, the Budget is expected to be a comprehensive one, which takes into account the needs of the people of Delhi and aims to provide them with better infrastructure, healthcare, education, and job opportunities. The presentation of the Budget is eagerly awaited, and all eyes will be on the Delhi Legislative Assembly at 11 am today
