JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna faces suspension amid scandal over alleged circulation of his sex tapes before elections, despite claims they are fake.
The Janata Dal (Secular) party suspended MP Prajwal Revanna, grandson of the former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda, till the final decision was made by the core committee on Tuesday. The allegations that sex tapes involving Revanna that were being circulated before the recent Lok Sabha elections have put him in a controversial spotlight.
The saga began in June 2023 when Revanna himself moved a Bengaluru civil court seeking a gag order against 86 media outlets in regard to the broadcast of what he termed as "fake news" and "morphed photographs/videos". Finally, the court granted him an injunction to prevent the dissemination of such content against him citing the threat of broadcasting.
Nevertheless, during the time period before the April 26th polls, approximately 2900 videos which allegedly were recorded by Revanna were circulated through pen drives in his Hassan constituency. G. Devaraje Gowda, the local BJP leader who was defeated by Revanna's father in the 2023 state elections, had complained about the existence of "obscene pictures" in January 2024. He claimed that he had obtained them from one of Revanna's former drivers.
Gowda said that he had not released those videos so that the women could be spared, but he warned the leadership of the state BJP that it would not be right for it to be associated with a family whose son is a rapist.

On Wednesday, JD(S) and BJP election agents approached a police station and registered an FIR alleging that the videos are fake and that unknown individuals are circulating manipulated content to defame Revanna.
