Putin warned Europe is defenseless against Russia's tactical nukes and may revise nuclear doctrine, threatening to supply missiles to Russia's allies facing Western pressure over Ukraine.

Addressing the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin put European countries that support Ukraine on notice stating they have no defense against Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons.

Putin asserted that Russia has more tactical nuclear weapons than the number of such weapons in the entire Europe including the United States. He menacingly declared, “Europe does not have a developed early warning system. In this sense, they are more or less defenseless.

Russian president’s words escalated tensions that have been already high between Russia and Western countries due to the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine. Putin proposed that he could alter the Russian nuclear policy and was not against new changes that could bring nuclear readiness closer.

“This doctrine is a living tool and we are, as it has been mentioned, carefully observing what is going on in the world around us and, naturally, do not reject the possibility of making amendments to this doctrine,” Putin stated. “This is also associated with the testing of nuclear weapons. ”

In another threat, Putin said Russia still has the privilege of delivering long-range missiles and other modern conventional weapons to countries or organizations that are experiencing military pressure from countries supplying Ukraine. A Russian state TV host very recently threatened the West with consequences if it did not stop ‘molesting the Russian bear. ’

The nuclear saber-rattling brought a bizarre end to an unusual week at the economic forum, which was meant to present Russia’s image as an international business partner despite being an international outcast. However, few companies from the developed countries of the West participated in the fair and the corporate delegations that were present were mostly from Asia, Africa, and South America.

The escalation of threats and tough rhetoric shows that Putin is not ready to compromise and further increases the nuclear threats as Russia’s war against Ukraine enters its third year without a clear victory.
