Notorious serial killer Chanderkant Jha, dubbed the ‘Butcher of Delhi,’ was arrested after evading authorities for over a year. Chanderkant Jha, infamously known as the ‘Butcher of Delhi,’ was arrested on January 17, 2025, at Old Delhi Railway Station, ending a prolonged search by Delhi Police.

Jha, 57, gained notoriety for brutally killing and dismembering 18 victims between 1998 and 2007. Born in 1967 in Bihar, he moved to Delhi seeking work in the 1990s. Despite limited education and working low-income jobs, Jha’s gruesome crimes shocked the nation.

His modus operandi involved befriending victims, mainly fellow migrants, by offering food and shelter. Minor disputes or perceived betrayals would lead to their murders. His first known crime was in 1998, with several bodies later discovered near Tihar Jail, often as acts of defiance.

Convicted in 2013 for three murders, Jha received two death sentences, later reduced to life imprisonment. However, he escaped parole in October 2023, evading authorities for over a year. A ₹50,000 reward was announced for his capture, prompting extensive investigations across Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh.
