Several Feared Dead After Explosion Rocks Firework Factory in West Bengal

Tragedy struck as an explosion tore through an alleged illegal firework business in Duttapukur, West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Sunday. 

While the official tally of casualties has not been confirmed by the police, reports indicate that numerous individuals are believed to be dead due to the explosion. 

The ill-fated property in Duttapukur, situated in the Barasat district, was purportedly being exploited as an unlawful firework production site, holding raw ingredients without the requisite authorization.

As per accounts, local neighbours allege that at least four persons lost their life in the high-intensity explosion. Authorities have launched a rescue effort to determine the extent of the damage and provide aid to those affected. 

All injured individuals have been brought to the Barasat hospital for immediate medical treatment.

The aftermath of the bomb revealed that surrounding residences experienced damage as well due to the tremendous explosion. A strong police presence soon appeared at the site in reaction to the explosion, initiating an investigation into the occurrence.

Unfortunately, this is not a rare occurrence in the area. There have been previous events of a similar nature, highlighting the risky conditions that exist in the illegal fabrication of fireworks. 

Opposition Leader Suvendhu Adhikari has blamed the state administration for the tragedy, citing its failure to regulate the firecracker business. In his remarks, Adhikari emphasised the government's lacklustre response to the earlier explosion, despite its claims to have implemented safety precautions.

The explosion at the suspected illicit fireworks business was the latest in a series of tragic tragedies. The incident has renewed worries about the efficacy of safety standards and their enforcement in the fireworks industry.
