Supriya Sule surprised many by attending the Thackeray cousins' reunion rally in Mumbai. Her presence underscored the growing unity among Maharashtra’s opposition. Held to celebrate the rollback of a controversial Hindi language policy, the event marked the first public collaboration between Uddhav and Raj Thackeray in two decades.

In a striking display of political symbolism and shifting alliances, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Supriya Sule made a surprise appearance at the joint rally of Uddhav and Raj Thackeray at the Worli Dome in Mumbai. The rally marked the first time in two decades that the Thackeray cousins stood united on a political platform.
Sule, although her party was not officially involved in the event, was seen seated prominently in the front row, alongside Shiv Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi and other allies. Her presence hinted at growing collaboration among the opposition forces in Maharashtra amid broader regional and linguistic concerns.
The rally was organized to celebrate the Maharashtra government’s decision to withdraw two controversial government resolutions that aimed to introduce Hindi as the third language in primary schools. Raj Thackeray, head of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), emphasized his respect for Hindi while underlining that no language should be imposed. Drawing from history, he said the Maratha empire never enforced Marathi on the territories it ruled.
Raj and Uddhav Thackeray shared an emotional moment before taking the stage, embracing after years of estrangement. Raj remarked that it took Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to accomplish what even Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray could not—bringing the cousins back together.

The event is being viewed as a potential turning point in Maharashtra politics, as opposition leaders increasingly find common ground to defend regional identity against central policy impositions. Supriya Sule’s unexpected appearance at the rally reinforces her party’s alignment with the broader Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance and the united front emerging in defense of Maharashtra's cultural autonomy.
