Many worshippers were hurt in the attack, including a bishop. New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb said the event was found to have been an act of religiously motivated "extremism" that scared the public. This figure, according to Reuters, includes both those who attended church in person and those who watched the service live online.

Karen Webb, the police commissioner for New South Wales, informed the media that after consideration of all the material, I declared that it was a terrorist incident.

"We’ll allege there’s a degree of premeditation on the basis that this person has traveled to that location, which is not near his residential address, he has traveled with a knife and subsequently the bishop and the priest have been stabbed…They’re lucky to be alive," said the police commissioner.

The Wakeley neighborhood's Christ the Good Shepherd Church served as the crime site on Monday. This occurred barely two days after another stabbing incident in the same city claimed six lives.
