A tragic Tesla Cybertruck crash on Thanksgiving morning claimed the lives of three college sophomores in Piedmont, California. The accident occurred at around 3 a.m. when the vehicle jumped a curb, hit a tree, and burst into flames. Authorities suspect speed was a key factor in the crash.
The victims, Jack Nelson (University of Colorado), Soren Dixon (USC), and Krysta Tsukahara (Savannah College of Art and Design), were longtime friends who graduated high school together in 2023. The sole survivor, Jordan Miller, a 20-year-old student at the University of Wisconsin, sustained severe burns and underwent surgery. He was rescued by a fellow attendee of the same event, who was driving another car.
The California Highway Patrol has impounded the vehicle to investigate potential mechanical malfunctions. Although no immediate evidence suggests issues with the Cybertruck’s battery or mechanics, Tesla’s recent recalls, including one involving delayed rear-view camera functionality, have raised questions about the vehicle’s safety.
Samantha Miller, Jordan’s mother, described the ordeal as “devastating,” emphasizing the deep loss felt by the families of the victims. The police investigation remains ongoing, aiming to provide clarity on the exact cause of the accident.
