Thailand will launch an e-visa facility for Indian passport holders starting January 1, 2025. Visa fees must be paid offline, and a 60-day exemption remains in effect. The move simplifies travel for Indian tourists, who form a significant portion of Thailand’s visitors, boosting its tourism recovery post-pandemic.

The Thai Embassy in Delhi announced that Indian passport holders can apply for e-visas starting January 1, 2025. This move aims to simplify travel for Indians, who constitute a significant segment of Thailand’s tourism market.

The e-visa system will require applicants to pay visa fees offline, with details on payment methods to be provided by the respective Embassy and Consulate-Generals. Notably, visa fees will remain non-refundable.

The 60-day visa exemption for tourism and short business trips for Indian ordinary passport holders will continue until further notice, as stated by the embassy. This exemption has been a popular option for Indian travelers, allowing easier access to Thailand’s renowned tourist destinations.

Thailand remains a top destination for Indian tourists, with Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, and Koh Samui leading as favorite hotspots. The Southeast Asian nation also holds a significant appeal for destination weddings and honeymoon tourism, contributing to its growing popularity among Indian travelers.

Pre-pandemic, over two million Indian tourists visited Thailand annually, and the numbers have steadily recovered post-COVID-19. The introduction of e-visas is expected to further boost this trend, streamlining the application process and enhancing travel convenience.
