On April 12, 2023, a tragedy struck the Bathinda military station in which four young soldiers, all aged between 24 and 25 years, were shot dead while they slept in their barracks. The Killer remained unknown until the arrest of Desai Mohan, the only eyewitness to the crime, who was charged with the killing of his colleagues. The incident has left many questions unanswered, but with the CCTV footage, investigators concluded that the crime was an inside job.

Eyewitness turned Killer: The Unfolding of the Bathinda Military Station Tragedy

Mohan, an artillery gunner from Andhra Pradesh, was initially considered a witness, as he reported seeing two masked attackers fleeing the scene with an Insas rifle and an axe. However, it was later discovered that Mohan had lied about what he had seen and was the actual killer.

Revenge and Betrayal: The Motive Behind Bathinda Military Station Shooting

Authorities did not immediately disclose what had driven Mohan to commit the crime, but sources suggest that he was seeking revenge for a sexual assault that he had endured. Mohan had stolen the Insas rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition from the military station three days before the shooting. He hid the weapon and waited for the right moment to strike, choosing to kill his colleagues in the early morning hours when they were fast asleep.

Lies and Deception: Mohan's Attempt to mislead investigators fails in military station massacre case

After the crime, Mohan attempted to throw off the investigators by telling a false story about the attackers in a white kurta-pajama. However, when the investigators pressed him, he changed his story twice, arousing suspicion. He later admitted to the killings, leading to his arrest and charges of murder and theft.
