AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi's Delhi home was vandalized with black ink, marking another in a series of attacks. The incident follows controversy over his Palestine remarks during oath-taking. Owaisi criticizes police inaction and remains defiant against intimidation attempts.
AIMIM chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that his residence located in Delhi’s Ashoka Road area was attacked by unknown vandals who used black ink on Thursday.
Owaisi posted a video on social media in which police officers washing off with water the ink on the plaque outside his residence. He too has become weary of such incidents, and in the post he complained that he has lost count of how many times his Delhi residence has been attacked.
The Hyderabad MP condemned the Delhi Police for what he saw as their impotence in the prevention of such attacks that he said the police officials said they were helpless when asked to explain the incident. Owaisi has used the hashtag #safetomp and named Home Minister Amit Shah and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to express his concern about the safety of MPs.
It is not the first time Owaisi’s Delhi residence has been attacked. There were two similar events last year – in August when someone shattered the glass panels of the door and in February when somebody threw stones at the house.
Owaisi who recently won the election from Hyderabad, defeating BJP candidate Kompella Madhavi Latha by over 3. 38 lakh votes, sent a defiant message to the perpetrators: “This does not scare me. . . be men enough to face me. ”
This incident occurs as a backdrop to the controversy that ensued during the oath taking of Owaisi as an MP on Tuesday, when he stood for Palestine. This statement elicited heated responses from members belonging to treasury benches and was later removed from the record.
Owaisi justified his actions saying, “I said Jai Bheem, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine. ’ How is it wrong?” He elaborated by saying that he mentioned Palestine since “they are oppressed people”.
