A tragic incident unfolded in Assam’s Nalbari district on Thursday when a country-made passenger boat capsized in the Brahmaputra River near Gorkhattari Ghat. At least three individuals, including two students, have been reported missing following the accident.

The incident occurred near Mukalmua, a riverine area often dependent on boats for transportation. Eyewitnesses stated that the boat lost balance and overturned while carrying several passengers. The exact number of people on board at the time of the mishap remains unclear.

Soon after the accident, a large-scale rescue operation was launched. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local police rushed to the site. According to Supriya Das, Superintendent of Police, Nalbari, "Three persons, including two students, are missing. Search operations are ongoing with all necessary teams deployed."

Rescue teams have continued their operations since Thursday night, combing the waters and riverbanks in search of the missing individuals. Due to strong river currents and murky conditions, the search has proven challenging. Authorities have confirmed that the operation will continue until there is a resolution.

This incident has once again highlighted safety concerns surrounding unregulated boat travel in remote parts of Assam, especially during the monsoon season. Locals and passengers often rely on such boats due to a lack of proper bridges or ferry services.

As the situation develops, families of the missing await news, while officials monitor the progress of the rescue teams. Further updates are expected as the search continues.
