Tragedy on Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway: Eight people die, fifteen others injured in tempo traveller mishap

A tempo traveller carrying over 23 people crashed into a gorge on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag, killing at least 8 and injuring 15. Rescue operations are underway, and the death toll is expected to rise.

In a tragic accident that occurred on Saturday, a tempo traveller which was over laden with more than 23 passengers, toppled and rolled into a deep gorge on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway at Rudraprayag district in the state of Uttarakhand. As per SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra, eight people have been killed, and fifteen others are stated to be injured in the mishap. 

The officer from the State Disaster Response Fund informed the nation that the mortality figure is set to rise since some of the affected are in a critical condition. Up to today’s date, it is still not clear the number of passengers that were in the car at the time of the unfortunate event. 

Even now many people are still trapped in the area and SDRF and police teams are involved in the rescue operations. Among the two persons who were affected, one has been taken to the nearby hospital in the ambulance. 

Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also reacted to the incident stating that he is heartbroken to learn about the incident. He stated that all the seriously injured in the accident are being taken to AIIMS Rishikesh for more treatment. The Chief Minister has called upon the officials to ensure the best care is accorded to the injured ones and has assured all of his government’s support in this disaster. 

On a post in X (ex- Twitter) Chief Minister Dhami said, “A very sad news has come in about an accident of tempo traveller in Rudraprayag district, local administration and SDRF teams are engaged in relief & rescue operation, the injured have been taken to nearest medical centre, District magistrate has been directed to inquire in this regard. ” 

He also said, “I pray to God to grant the souls of those that are gone a place in his feet and to also give strength to the family to bear such pain, I also pray to Baba Kedar for the speedy recovery of the injured. ”

Regarding the root of the accident, it cannot be determined, and it is still under investigation by the relevant authorities.

In another accident, two persons died on the spot and six others got injured in a bus-truck mishap at Sewar police station in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district on Saturday. Some were rushed to RBM Hospital Bharatpur for treatment while others who died were identified as Pratap Singh 57 years and Harbhan 35 years.
