Soraha village in Uttar Pradesh is facing a power outage after the theft of a transformer. The stolen parts have caused major disruptions, especially for students preparing for upcoming exams. The police suspect insider involvement, and efforts are underway to address the issue.
In Soraha village, located in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun district, residents are facing a severe power outage after a transformer was stolen on December 14, 2024. Miscreants stole essential parts, including copper wires, oil, and other metals, leaving the transformer abandoned in a nearby field. This theft has plunged the village into darkness during a wave of cold weather and dense fog, severely affecting the community.
The power outage has particularly impacted students preparing for their Uttar Pradesh State Board exams scheduled for next month, as they struggle to study without electricity. Village head Satpal Singh emphasized the hardships, pointing out that without power, inverters and mobile phones are useless, and submersible pumps for water supply are non-operational.
Local authorities were alerted to the missing transformer by villagers, and the theft was later confirmed. In response, an alternate power supply was arranged from a nearby village, though many villagers are dissatisfied with the temporary solution, accusing government officials of indifference.
Police have registered an FIR and are investigating the theft. Early findings suggest the involvement of an insider, based on the theft of a live wire and evidence gathered from mobile phone calls and CCTV footage. Additional patrols are being requested by the local electricity department to prevent further incidents.

This theft is part of a growing trend in the region, as similar thefts occurred in Kanpur last year. In one such case, a gang that stole transformer parts suffered a fatal incident when one member was electrocuted by a live wire.
