President Biden's shaky debate performance intensified concerns about his age and fitness, while Trump showed unexpected discipline. The event raised questions about Biden's candidacy and potentially shifted dynamics in the 2024 presidential race.
During Thursday evening’s debate the inconsistency of Joe Biden, the president of the United States, has sparked further debates regarding his age and suitability for the position, with Donald Trump, the former president of the United States, exhibiting a much more composed demeanor than one might expect.
Biden, who came into the debate being challenged on his skills, could not even achieve the reduced standards. He was not very articulate, especially at the beginning of the debate, and his answers were quite verbose. He also said something like he has finally beaten Medicare at one point when he seemed to have gotten lost in his speech.
The Biden campaign later explained that the President had a cold, which caused his raspy voice, but this brought more confusion than clarification. In the aftermath of the debate, Biden’s former communications director, Kate Bedingfield, said on CNN that it had been “not a good debate for Joe Biden.
On the other hand, Trump was calmer and more specific than in other debates looked like. He mostly did not interrupt and successfully steered conversations to focus on attacking Biden. Fact-checkers captured several misleading statements by Trump, but the former vice president sometimes barely responded to these falsehoods.
Responding to the attacks, Biden tried to turn the tables and went on the offence with a series of aggressive statements against Trump, including the Capitol riot and his legal issues. However, such efforts were made in the later part of the debate and could barely balance his flaws early on.
The event’s timing was early in the election cycle, and it could buy Biden campaign much-needed time to recover. But it has also raised questions with the Democratic voters about Biden’s candidacy or the ability to win the presidency. Nonetheless, the Biden campaign strongly categorically stresses that he will remain the Democratic nominee.
Another debate is planned in September, and the DNC is scheduled for August; thus, both the camps need to manage the narrative after this first significant face-off.

This line of debate has undoubtedly shifted the dynamics of the 2024 presidential election race, where voters and political pundits have to consider the implications of this change as it affects both the candidates and their respective parties.
