President Trump’s diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency has raised health concerns, especially after a visible hand bruise fueled social media rumors. Though White House doctors call his condition mild, experts warn untreated CVI can lead to severe complications, including amputation. Public focus intensifies as Trump continues public appearances amid speculation.
President Donald Trump has ignited a wave of public speculation and concern following fresh reports about his health, particularly his recent diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). The condition, while common, has raised eyebrows after a noticeable bruise on Trump's hand was spotted during a public appearance, despite weeks of attempts to conceal it with makeup.
Trump, 79, was seen walking on the South Lawn of the White House with his grandchildren, Kai and Spencer, after social media rumors about him going “missing” trended online. The White House has not directly responded to these claims, but press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed concerns about the visible bruising, attributing it to Trump's frequent handshaking during engagements.
In a follow-up from the White House physician, Dr. Sean Barbarella, Trump was described as being in “excellent condition,” with tests ruling out deep vein thrombosis, heart failure, or kidney issues. However, the diagnosis of CVI—a circulatory disorder where veins struggle to return blood from the legs to the heart—remains a point of concern.
Medical experts warn that CVI, though common in older adults, can become serious if left unmanaged. Dr. Mimmie Kwong, a vascular surgeon at UC Davis Health, explained that the disease can progress from mild leg swelling to chronic wounds and, in severe cases, even lead to amputations. “If unhealing wounds worsen, amputation becomes a real risk,” she stated in a recent blog post.

Despite reassurances from the White House, public concern is mounting, particularly as the 2026 election season looms. Trump’s age and health are becoming focal points in both media coverage and political discussions, especially amid growing speculation about the readiness of his vice president, JD Vance, to step in if needed.
