Donald Trump criticized his unconditional discharge in the hush money case, calling it a “witch hunt” by Democrats. Convicted of 34 felony counts but spared jail time, Trump declared the charges baseless and vowed to appeal. The trial’s outcome underscores political divisions as Trump readies for his presidency.
Former President Donald Trump has criticized the Biden-Harris administration following his unconditional discharge in the hush money case. Convicted of 34 felony counts, Trump received no jail time or fines, citing presidential protections. In a statement on TruthSocial, Trump accused Democrats of orchestrating a six-year “witch hunt” and declared the case “baseless, illegal, and fake.”
Trump reiterated that the verdict demonstrated a lack of legitimacy in the charges against him, arguing that legal experts supported his stance. He labeled the trial a “hoax” and announced plans to appeal, criticizing the presiding judge and the prosecution’s star witness as biased and untrustworthy. “The real jury,” Trump declared, “are the American people who have voted for me and given me a mandate as the 47th President.”
The case revolved around allegations that Trump paid $130,000 in hush money to an adult film star during his 2016 campaign to suppress claims of an affair. Despite his conviction, Justice Juan Merchan imposed an unconditional discharge, citing legal protections for the presidency. However, Merchan emphasized that these protections could not overturn the jury’s verdict.
